The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers reveal that Jacob Young is a familiar face to many soap fans thanks to his roles as B&B’s Rick Forrester, General Hospital’s Lucky Spencer and All My Children’s JR Chandler. Young delivered plenty of powerful performances, but it was a private battle that perhaps became his greatest challenge.

In a recent episode of the Imperfectly Perfect podcast, Jacob Young was featured in a guest interview.

That gave Young an opportunity to share the story of his difficult life and how he wound up hiding an opioid addiction for seven years.

Young talked about growing up with divorced parents and bouncing around in homes between states.

Tough financial circumstances added to Young’s family struggles since there often wasn’t enough money to put food on the table.

Young also suffered a tragic blow when his beloved stepmother took her own life. That shook Young up as a teenager and added to his trauma.

After dabbling in recreational marijuana use, Young moved to the East Coast for work and became dependent on alcohol.

Drug experimenting came later since Young was dealing with depression and some unresolved issues from his past.

Once Jacob Young settled down and started a family of his own with his wife, Christen Steward, he got away from all the drugs for a while.

Unfortunately, Young’s life took a turn for the worse after dental surgery resulted in him getting a prescription for Vicodin.

“This is something I’ve never been completely open about,” Young admitted.

“I started getting hooked on opioids and I went through seven years of my life wasted on opioids.”

Although Young never let his addiction affect his work, he felt like he was “living an absolute lie.”

Since Young would pretend everything was fine while hiding this serious opioid dependency, he eventually couldn’t take it anymore.

Even Jacob Young’s wife didn’t know until he finally came clean about his addiction and confessed that he needed help.

Young relied on doctors to figure out a path forward, but he acknowledged that it was a hard journey.

Now Young is willing to speak out and hopefully help others by sharing his story.

“I’m not afraid to talk about it,” Young said. “We are all going through something in our lives, you know?”

As for what’s next on B&B, the Forresters will remain caught up in a feud with Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Katie Logan Spencer (Heather Tom).
