Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd mind blown by how Emmerdale cast work

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has swapped the cobbles for the village of Emmerdale ahead of the exciting crossover event, and he’s shared one major difference between the Corrie and Emmerdale casts.
The David Platt star has been a Coronation Street mainstay for over 25 years, and has taken on some major storylines during that time, so it’s only right that he feature in Corriedale.
Corriedale is set to air in January 2026 and will see the lives of our favourite Corrie and Emmerdale characters collide for the first time in ITV soap history.
So far, it has been confirmed that Corrie stars Vicky Myers and Kate Ford, who play DS Lisa Swain and Tracy Barlow will also be heading across the Pennines.
From Emmerdale, Aaron Dingle and Dr Liam Cavanagh stars Danny Miller and Jonny McPherson are also confirmed to be involved.
While working on the dramatic episode, which sees a devastating multi-vehicle pile-up leave lives in jeopardy, Jack noticed a major difference in the way the Emmerdale cast work.

Sharing with castmates Colson Smith and Ben Price on the On the Sofa podcast, Jack revealed that the Emmerdale cast have a different approach to learning lines.
‘I’ve been working with a lot of different soap actors that we’re not really familiar with,’ Jack said, careful not to give away too many details that would spoil the crossover surprises.
‘They were telling me what their trick of the trade for line learning [is]. We all know that mine is the old cover and check.’
Colson then explained that this involves reading a line, covering it with your hand, saying it out loud and then checking that you’ve got it right.
However, the Emmerdale cast do it differently, as Jack explained.

‘They have dictaphones or voice notes, so they will record the other person’s lines, and leave gaps.
‘They’ll do that, and then they’ll learn their lines – the old cover and check, universally works – and then they will practice the scene with themselves on the voice note.’
While Nick Tilsley star Ben seemed blown away by this revelation, Colson, who played Craig Tinker until he was killed off earlier this year, revealed that he learnt his lines in the same way as the Emmerdale cast.
There may actually be even more Corrie stars who have witnessed the Emmerdale cast learning their lines in a different way, if Jack’s Instagram is anything to go by.
In a post captioned ‘Emmerdale away’, Jack shared a video enjoying a meal with co-stars Simon Gregson, Alan Halsall, Andrew Whyment, Sam Aston and Jimmi Harkishin.
Does this mean that their characters, Steve McDonald, Tyrone Dobbs, Kirk Sutherland, Chesney Brown and Dev Alahan, will all be involved in Corriedale?
We already know that there is a possibility Kirk could cross paths with Sam Dingle (James Hooton), as the pair have filmed one of four scenes that viewers can choose to be included in the episode.
The other scenes filmed include interactions between Carla Connor (Alison King) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Tracy Barlow and Ross Barton (Michael Parr), and Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler).
Jack’s post went down a treat with fans and co-stars alike, with Sophie Webster actress Brooke Vincent writing: ‘Big dev there.’

‘What a crew,’ Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, wrote, while Cassie Plummer star Claire Sweeney left a series of love hear emojis.
‘Love this,’ Tracy Barlow legend Kate Ford added, while Sally Carman, who plays Abi Webster, penned: ‘Lads.’
Emmerdale’s Danny Miller also got in on the action, commenting: ‘We’re waiting.’
So are we, Danny. So are we!
