Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall future on soap revealed after 28 years
The 43-year-old actor joined Corrie aged 15 in 1998 and will now enter his 28th year as the beloved mechanic after putting pen to paper on a new deal
Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has signed a new contract to continue playing Tyrone Dobbs on the ITV soap.
The 43 year old actor started on Corrie at just 15 in 1998 and will now begin his 28th year as the cherished mechanic after signing a fresh deal.
A source revealed to The Sun: “Alan was thrilled to sign his contract earlier this year.
“He’s made Tyrone into a cobbles classic so bosses are delighted he’s agreed to stay for at least another year.
“There are big things coming up for the soap and Tyrone in the coming year.”
Tyrone initially appeared on the cobbles with adoptive mum Jackie (Margi Clarke), swiftly becoming like a son to Weatherfield legends Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn) and establishing his position at the core of the community.
Throughout the years, he has been central to some of the soap’s most gripping storylines, from the explosive 50th anniversary affair involving first wife Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) and garage partner Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), to discovering his drug addict birth mother Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) and forming a bond with his maternal grandmother Evelyn (Dame Maureen Lipman).
Most recently, fans were left stunned when Tyrone fell victim to a devastating hit-and-run, orchestrated as part of Carl Webster’s (Jonathan Howard) car theft scheme.
Alan disclosed the secrecy surrounding the stunt meant viewers had no clue Tyrone would be struck, leaving many wondering whether the adored character might be departing the show.

In a previous chat with the Metro, he expressed: “Initially, there is a concern that he might not get up at all. There’s real fear there, and not just fear from Tyrone but fear from Fiz and the kids and his mum and gran.
“They don’t know if he’ll walk again or how life is going to look going forward. But he knows they will all try to stick together and face what the future holds.”
The accident resulted in Tyrone being confined to a wheelchair, with his wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) balancing his care with raising their children Hope and Ruby.
With Tyrone remaining on the cobbles for the time being, Halsall hinted at “big things coming up” for his character in the forthcoming 12 months, sparking excitement among fans for more twists, turns, and classic Weatherfield drama.
