Coronation Street star says he was “nearly killed” in worrying hospital post

Former Coronation Street star Liam Scholes shared a health update on his Instagram page after revealing he had been attacked by a monkey while on holiday.
The actor previously starred as Eli Higginson in the ITV soap as well as in Waterloo Road as Noel McManus.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Scholes shared a video of himself lying in a hospital bed with an IV drip in his hand.
Alongside the footage, he wrote: “When you nearly get killed by a monkey in the desert… game is over, wait for the reel guys… just you wait.”
He then thanked his girlfriend, Roisin Riley, for being his “very own lifesaver.”

Liam shared a post from a family member that included a series of pictures of the group posing with a small monkey.
It continues: “Liam Scholes doesn’t have the same monkey appear as the rest of the Scholes clan. Monkey 1, Liam 0.”
Liam joined Coronation Street in 2021 as Eli, a friend of renowned criminal Corey Brent. After a whirlwind few months on the cobbles, he left the soap in September of the same year.
During that time, he dated co-star Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy Barlow on the show, but they split earlier this year.
The actor then joined the cast of Waterloo Road in 2023 as Noel, a kitchen assistant apprentice at the high school and the fiancé of Stace Neville.
Speaking in a BBC press release last year, Liam explained how he feels the series reboot, as well as his character, are as relatable as ever.
“Anyone who messed about in school or anyone that enjoys causing a little bit of chaos will relate to Noel,” he began.
“It’s pretty much the kid I never was in school but there is an element of me in him.”
He went on to say: “I think especially with all the characters, a lot of different people are represented. There are also issues happening in the real world that are shown in the show that people can relate to.”
Reflecting on his own experiences of school, he said: “Yeah, chaos. I’m half joking. It was good. I was always a good boy, so I got good grades, but my teachers would probably say that I was a good boy. I was a little guy, but now I’m the big guy. It was quite fun.”
