Coronation Street star confirms who saves Will from sex offender Megan

A shocking new Coronation Street storyline began this week, involving two new characters.

Following the arrival of new family the Driscolls, youngest member Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) finally arrived on the cobbles to join his loved ones and Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley).

In Wednesday’s episode, the police got involved in the search for the missing teen after it became apparent he was missing.

When he spotted the cops, he panicked, and attempted to sneak into the pub through the beer garden, where he bumped into Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner).

It was then that it became clear that he didn’t intend on coming home, when he offered to pay Lily to sneak his passport out to him.

Fortunately, Lily told Eva and Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) but by the time they got outside, Will was gone again.

Thankfully, he found his own way back to the Rovers later – but he wasn’t on his own.

The family gathered in the backroom to hear from Megan (Beth Nixon) Will’s old coach, who revealed that she’d found him camping out in one of the changing rooms at the sports hall and had brought him straight back.

As Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) questioned why she didn’t phone them or the police, Megan argued that she was worried Will was a flight risk, before pointing out that she’d been right, seeing as he’d immediately legged it to try and get his passport.

However, it later turned out that Megan’s story had been a lie, and there was something much more sinister going on.

When Will snuck out into the ginnel later that night, he met Megan and she warned him to stop acting like a loose cannon, before promising him that they could be together again soon.

It is clear that Will believes he is in a relationship with his former coach, but in reality, she has groomed him.

Following these disturbing scenes, star Beth Nixon has opened up about her new role.

She told us: ‘Megan is very calculated. Everything she does is for a reason, but she’s very good at hiding that. She’s very insecure, but again, she hides it. So she’s very confident and charismatic on the outside; she charms people, she makes people feel sorry for her, she makes people like her.

‘She’s worming her way into this family; she’s almost like a parasite. But as an actor, I obviously need to find that humanity in her and make her a rounded character. She’s not a one-dimensional character. She’s not just this evil person.

Beth added: ‘She has all these other things going on—all these life experiences she’s had, which have led her up to this point. The audience doesn’t know, the other characters don’t know, but she knows. So, there are all these things I’ve decided in my preparation.

Beth says that Megan will befriend Will’s loved ones (Picture: ITV)

‘She’s very insecure. She’s desperate to be loved; she’s desperate to be adored. And her reasons for that will eventually be uncovered, and we’ll dig deeper and find out more about her. But she’s a flawed person.’

Newcomer Beth went on to confirm that Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) will become suspicious of what’s going on between Megan and Will, sparking Beth’s character to take drastic action.

‘We can see her slowly worm her way into the family and befriend Eva and Maggie and really get the women on side with her’, she said.

‘They think she’s good for Will; they think she’s a brilliant mentor. So no one is suspecting anything at the moment. But we will see Lauren become suspicious because Lauren has obviously experienced something very similar to what Will’s going through. So she knows what to look for; she knows the signs and she spots them on the street. So Megan changes tack and decides to use Daniel as the cover-up.

‘We get to sort of uncover how truly vile she can be. She will stop at nothing to come out on top and survive, basically.’

If Megan successfully manages to keep Lauren quiet, it’s possible another Weatherfield resident will pick up on what Will is going through, based on the fact he also went through something similar as well.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) was groomed by an older woman called Trisha when he was younger. When this was suggested to him though, Tim defended Trisha and believed they were in a relationship.

With the storylines sharing similarities, some Corrie audience members can’t help but wonder if Tim will come to accept that he was a victim of grooming as he becomes aware of what’s going on with Will.

A user of Instagram wrote on a Coronation Street post: ‘Keen to see how this plays out when Tim catches wind and realises he was in a similar position all those years ago’.

Another said: ‘This will definitely tie in with the Tim storyline. When he sees a current situation of a young teenage boy and a woman – he’ll reflect on what happened to him in a different light’.

This fan agreed: ‘This is exactly what I thought. This is going to link in with Tim.’

Delving deeper into her character’s personality, Beth explained: ‘I think that she is probably quite narcissistic. She’s a narcissist. Obviously, because Will’s 15, he thinks she’s the best thing since sliced bread. He thinks she’s gorgeous, funny.

‘Obviously, she has money because she has a job, so she spoils him; she buys him Xbox games. And he knows that if he were to tell his friends, they would probably either think that’s wrong or they would think he’s lucky. She adores being adored. That’s her main drive in life.

‘Because without external adoration, she will crumble. I think she’s very insecure and probably hates herself. So having that absolute adoration, being Will’s absolute world, that’s what she sees in him. She doesn’t necessarily see his positive traits for who he is as a person, but she sees how he makes her feel.

She added: ‘Will is the perfect target. He’s been uprooted from his life in Hull; his birth mum’s not around.
