Coronation Street shock as Fiz is mugged in dramatic scenes

Coronation Street airs a huge new crisis for the Dobbs family next week as Fiz is mugged. Fiz’s husband Tyrone is already struggling to cope with his disability and injuries from the recent car accident, but he’s left feeling completely useless when his beloved wife is targeted.

As Dee-Dee Bailey’s new squeeze Ollie comes to the rescue, all Tyrone can focus on is how difficult his life has become.

“Tyrone’s whole life has changed and he’s struggling to cope,” reveals our cobbles insider. “The everyday things he used to find easy have new challenges, but he feels as if he has a whole new identity to contend with now. If he can’t protect his loved ones, who is he?”

Tyrone’s frustration begins at the Bistro when he and Fiz agree to build bridges and have lunch with Ty’s mum Cassie Plummer. He feels emasculated when Nick Tilsley steers his wheelchair through the restaurant and even Fiz feels uncomfortable with everyone watching.

Fiz cries for help and Ollie quickly jumps to action. Will Tyrone’s feelings of helplessness make it even harder for him to adjust to using a wheelchair?

In real life, Coronation Street recently invited Martin Hibbert – Manchester arena bomb survivor and vice president of the Spinal Injuries Association – to pay a visit to the soap’s set. He met Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine, who play Tyrone and Fiz, after giving the soap’s research team help with the storyline.

After meeting Hibbert and his wife, Gabby, Halsall said: “We are so grateful to Martin and Gabby for giving up their time to talk to us about their experiences.

“We might be telling this story on screen but at the end of the day we go home to our family and friends and leave behind what the characters are going through.

“Even just trying to negotiate getting round the set in the wheelchair has been a real eyeopener for me so to hear Martin’s own stories about how his life has changed has been really helpful and also humbling.”
