Days Of Our Lives Star Suzanne Rogers Diagnosed with Cancer – Maggie Kiriakis Exiting Storylines

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Maggie Kiriakis is slated to leave Salem, as actress and Daytime Emmy winner Suzanne Rogers recently announced she was diagnosed with Stage II colorectal cancer.

The 82-year-old actress spoke to TV Insider about her cancer, revealing that she was diagnosed after reaching out to her doctor.

Rogers told the online mag that she felt as if something wasn’t right, so she turned to her physician for answers.

She had done routine colonoscopies in the past, but after her doctor ordered another one, there were some worrisome results.

The medical professional then asked for an MRI, a PET scan, and a biopsy, and after those tests, Rogers found out she had colorectal cancer.

Rogers was in complete shock when the doctor revealed her cancer diagnosis and advised her to begin treatment right away.

She began her six-week radiation and chemo treatments this past June, which is when the actress stepped away from her busy Days shooting schedule.

She was required to attend these therapy sessions five days out of a seven-day week.

Still, while Rogers had no family in Los Angeles to lean on, she did have her friend, Sunie Ostermann, for support, and her Days of Our Lives family.

Rogers stated that her television daughter, Linsey Godrey (Sarah Horton Kiriakis) – who also survived cancer back in 2007 – was there for her during this difficult time.

In fact, during infusions, Linsey was there by her onscreen mom’s side, holding her hand throughout the entire process.

Along with Godfrey was Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis), who shared plenty of meals with his DOOL mother-in-law during her fight with cancer.

Rogers noted in the TV Insider interview that, “I knew I could count on them, so it was a lovely experience…. We really feel like a family.”

Godfrey and Telfer weren’t the only Days colleagues who were there for Rogers.

The actress notes that she got plenty of “check-in” phone calls from DOOL’s Executive Producer Ken Corday and Co-Executive Producer Noel Maxam.

In addition, Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark), Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Johnson), and Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson) also reached out.

Rogers has created a daytime legacy on DOOL, entering the canvas in 1973. She scored a Daytime Emmy in 1979 in the Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Maggie Horton Kiriakis.

While Rogers’ cancer diagnosis was scary, the silver lining in all this is that she’s recovered and scheduled to return to shooting on the Peacock soap next week.

Days of Our Lives spoilers remind fans that, as the show films about 10 months ahead of airing, viewers won’t see Maggie’s exit until 2026; however, they’ll also see her return some months later.
