The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Remorseful Matt Asks Forgiveness – Can Twisted Villain Really Be Redeemed?

The Young and the Restless The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) storyline is about to head in another shocking direction. Y&R fans are used to not knowing what wild plot Matt’s going to carry out next, but things are a little different now that he has amnesia.

Even so, Matt will keep finding ways to deliver surprises. That’s because it looks like Matt’s going to be genuinely horrified and remorseful when he finds out the whole truth about his past. Matt already got a few hints about what a rotten person he’s been since Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) manhandled him and raged over the explosion he caused.

Matt also had a flashback in the May 14 episode of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) attacking him, so part of him senses he must’ve been a pretty bad guy to warrant all this outrage. Of course, Matt still doesn’t know the details of what he’s done or just how heinous his crimes have been. There’ll come a point when Matt will discover the depth of his horrible history with the Newmans and everyone else he’s wronged.

Now that Matt has lost his memories, we’re seeing a different side of him. This is someone who could actually remain on canvas and become part of daily storylines – not just insane arcs that end with fiery gas stations and showdowns in the desert. This version of Matt is somebody who could have staying power, so that may be what the show’s going for.

Is this Y&R’s attempt at Matt’s redemption – and if it is, will it actually work? It may be tough for fans to forgive or at least get past the things that Matt’s done, but viewers may be asked to try along with the Newmans! In a new interview with SOD, Roger Howarth hinted about what’s ahead for Matt now that he’s entering this new chapter.

“This raises some pretty large questions about whether forgiveness is really something that is possible. And how can someone forgive themselves? What is it like for somebody who is a horrible person to be confronted with their own horrible self?” Howarth said.

Howarth also indicated that Matt “has a lot to figure out” once he’s forced to face his past choices, so it doesn’t sound like he’s going to revert to being a villain anytime soon. Likewise, Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman) hinted about Matt being truly sorry for his actions in a recent live chat with Michael Fairman. It sounds like redeeming Matt could indeed be the plan – at least for now!

Anything is possible down the road, but Matt may actually try to turn over a new leaf in this next phase of the story. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Matt will face plenty of stunning news regarding his old criminal activity, so stay tuned to see his upcoming reaction.
