General Hospital’s Steve Burton Confirms GH Exit – See All The Details
General Hospital spoilers confirm that Steve Burton, who plays Jason Morgan on the soap, confirms that he is set to leave GH and the land of Port Charles, and CDL has all the details!
Burton jumped on Instagram in the afternoon of Tuesday, February 10, to give followers a stunning update on his character, noting he was going on hiatus and exiting General Hospital.
He uploaded a photo of himself, looking rather Jason-ish, and placed the following heading on the picture: “Hey everyone, I wanted to share that I’ll be taking a short break from @generalhospitalabc.
The heading also stated, “I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer.”
It wrapped up with, “Much luv – sb”. Burton’s IG caption had the very same wording.
Of course, GH fans flooded the comment section with messages of encouragement and support.
While Burton is one of the top leading men on the daytime drama, he also happens to be a fan favorite.
He’ll be missed for sure, so thank goodness he’s emphasized the words “short break”.
Burton’s onscreen son, Asher Antonyzyn, who plays Danny Morgan, hopped in the comment section with well-wishes that included, “Family first!!! See ya, soon!!!
Burton has played the character, Jason, on and off for three decades, entering the role in 1991, when he was known as “Jason Quartermaine”. Quartermaine evolved to “Morgan” in 1995, after a car crash caused some brain damage to Jason.
He quickly dumped his rich boy persona, ditched the preppy Q clothes, and transformed into the black-leather-jacket-wearing ‘Stone Cold’ GH viewers know him as.
While the actor did exit General Hospital in 2012 – entering Genoa City as he played The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) Dylan McAvoy during his time away – he would return to Port Charles in 2017.
Still, Burton would once again exit the soap in November 2021 after refusing to comply with ABC’s COVID-19 policy, a mandate that was established during the pandemic.
Once it was dropped, the soap opened its doors back to Burton, and he made a huge comeback in March 2024.
During his last leave from GH, the actor reprised an old Days of Our Lives role from the ‘80s, Harris Michaels.
General Hospital spoilers note that it’ll be interesting to see how Jason exits the canvas and the reason for his departure, considering he’s recently reunited with Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).
