During a trip to India, Jen Boecher met Rishi Singh in a hotel lobby. She didn’t give him a chance at first. But a month later, the TLC couple got engaged. She then decided to move to his home country so they could wed.
However, the 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way cast member didn’t tell his mother, Shimla, that he was planning to marry an older American woman. And when she found out about the large age gap, she didn’t accept their relationship.
However, age wasn’t the only issue. Jen had a problem accepting Rishi’s responsibility to live in the family home and care for his mother. She felt they would have to live in their own home if they wed. But going against his mother and culture isn’t easy for him to do.
At the end of the season, Jen tells Rishi that it’s over between them, and she is returning to America. However, at the reunion show, she reveals that they ran into each other at a friend’s wedding and had been talking again.
Jen Claps Back at Rishi’s Mom Age Shaming
Jen feels that a lot has to change for her to consider marrying Rishi. She needs his mother to accept her age and that she doesn’t want to live in the family home. However, he has difficulty telling Shimla that he plans to marry her. And when he does tell her, she is still against it because of the age gap.

Jen then video calls Rishi during a break. She tells him she isn’t okay with his mother, always saying she’s too old for him. She finds it hurtful.
However, he feels his mother doesn’t understand how she is coming across. He explains that she is a “proper housewife” and doesn’t know how to speak to people. He then apologizes on his mother’s behalf.

Jen Boecher was hurt hearing Rishi Singh’s mother constantly bring up her age. But, some fans feel that she should be more understanding of the Indian culture. One person thinks she is being “arrogant for ignoring and minimizing society norms” in India. Another person feels it’s “ridiculous” for her to believe he would go against his culture and “bend to her will with a smile.”
Some 90 Day Fiance fans feel that The Other Way cast member was being disrespectful towards Rishi’s mother. One person says she was “insulting his mother” because she is “sensitive and insecure” about her age.
