Coronation Street fans ‘crying’ as Carla dumps Lisa in early ITVX release

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Coronation Street fans are not coping well with the recent #Swarla developments in the ITV soap.

Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) have been a fan favourite couple since before they even began to express their feelings for each other, but tonight, hearts were broken as the end came.

Though they’ve had a rocky ride since the beginning of their relationship, things really started to go downhill after the return of Lisa’s wife, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden).

For several years, Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) had been led to believe that Becky had been killed in a hit and run while on duty.

However, it transpired that she had actually been living in Spain under a new identity after an undercover operation went wrong.

Since her return, she has made it clear to her family that they are all in danger of retaliation from the gang she crossed.

Of course, Carla is rightfully desperate for Becky to swing her hook, but Lisa is concerned for her safety.

With Becky refusing to leave for Spain without Lisa and Betsy, things had come to a stalemate, until Carla put her foot down in tonight’s episode.

Carla had planned a romantic meal and hotel stay for herself and Lisa so that they could spend some much-needed alone time together.

Having heard about their plans, Becky was unimpressed, and decided to come between them yet again.

After stealing a bottle of Carla’s best red, Becky got extremely drunk, leaving Lisa with no choice but to usher her inside and make sure she sobered up.

Poor Carla realised that Lisa wasn’t coming, and when she arrived home to find Becky in Lisa’s bathrobe, it was the final nail in the coffin.

Despite Lisa attempting to offer an explanation, Carla had already made up her mind about their future, and it wasn’t looking good.

Lisa begged Carla not to make her choose between their relationship and Betsy’s relationship with Becky, but Carla pointed out that it seemed she had already made her choice.

After a long, emotional discussion, Carla revealed that she was leaving, and no amount of begging from Lisa could convince her to stay.

Fans are understandably distraught about the outcome of the episode, and have already taken to social media to share their outrage.

‘Not me crying at Corrie,’ Molly said on Twitter/X alongside a series of sobbing emojis.

‘Heartbroken,’ another fan wrote, while Flavia said: ‘YO Corrie. You will be hearing from my therapist after those last 15 minutes. HOW DARE YOU.’

Other viewers were impressed with the performances in the scenes, with one writing: ‘Of course the break up scene was going to be one of the best bits of this storyline. Ten mins of pure angst 10/10 no notes. Still waiting to see “evil” Becky rise though.’

‘Now THAT is how you do an episode,’ Lucy agreed. It’s so painful to watch but that conversation was SO needed for them to heal. Vicky and Ali are so incredible.’
